The program includes a set of tutorial videos by John Derry. The program also provides standard image editing features including layers and filters. The page can be freely rotated while drawing or painting, as one would do when using a traditional piece of paper. A variety of paper textures or canvases can be chosen for use in conjunction with any of these media.Ĭolor can be selected from a set of traditional paint colors, adjusted by hue/saturation/value, or mixed in the mixer palette that mimics a traditional painter's palette. Painter Essentials provides a variety of brushes and media including oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, and ink wash paints, together with pencils, pens, charcoal, pastels, chalks and a variety of blenders. Alternatively, one can paint by hand with the program automatically choosing colors from the corresponding location in the original photo. In this workspace, a variety of styles of paintings can be created from a photo in a single click. The Photo Painting workspace is used for creating a painting from a photograph. The Drawing and Painting workspace is used for doodling, sketching or painting from scratch. Painter Essentials provides two workspaces that can be switched between at any time. Corel Painter Essentials is now in its 7th incarnation. Perhaps laughing at the idea was premature.Corel Painter Essentials is a home software studio for turning photographs into paintings. This discussion makes me consider creating the tutorials I’d like to see, though. Appropriately structured tutorials would have made it much easier to learn what little I’ve garnered from the manual and my own practice. The point is that I had to find all that out on my own. And only 32 more brushes to go through so I know what to use and how to use it in a work. There are 23 different strokes/styles display on my laptop. Only 13 because that is all my laptop/tablet displays (a problem discussed in a different thread in a different forum). The image below is what I did with the Airbrush brush – applied a short stroke of each of the first 13 airbrush styles. What’s the difference between Patterns and Looks? How does the Perspective tool work? What are the differences among the Acrylic brush Opaque Smooth, Detail Opaque brush and Wet Detail brush? If one isn’t already familiar with the program and/or already an effective artist all the tutorials start at levels way above beginner. Not trying to be overly critical, or ‘dissing any of them, but they just don’t do it for me. Sadly none cover the basics of the software – not even the ones labeled “for beginners”. There are lots of YT videos claiming to be Painter 2019 tutorials. I think it’s watching.) But I do things in a pretty basic way so I just need to look in the help manual sometimes.
(And that thing in the corner telling me to upgrade just popped up. But I haven’t really looked for any for Painter. Hmm, YouTube is usually a good place for tutorials.
